What is Awana?

The acronym ‘Awana’ comes from the first letters of Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed as taken from 2 Timothy 2:15. Awana is an international, Bible-centered children's ministry and youth ministry providing local churches with weekly clubs, programs and training for students ages 2 through high school.

Awana's Vision is to be a strategic partner with churches and ministries in a global effort to ensure the opportunity for all children and youth to be evangelized and discipled in Christ.

The Awana Prayer
(the purpose statement of Awana)
"Our prayer is that all children and youth throughout the world will come to know, love and serve the Lord Jesus Christ."
Awana Values
We will glorify God and serve the body of Christ by committing ourselves to these values:
  • We proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ with clarity and urgency.
  • We maintain a servant heart in all we do.
  • We commit to God’s Word as our guide and standard.
  • We manage God’s resources with faithfulness and integrity.
  • We treat all people as created and loved by God.
  • We pursue excellence as unto the Lord.

5 Principles of Awana

  1. Awana is centered on the gospel.
  2. Scripture memory is a key element.
  3. Awana is exciting and fun.
  4. Children and youth are trained to serve.
  5. Awana is built on volunteer leadership.

Letter from Jeb

Hello! I wanted to introduce myself. I'm Commander Jeb Berleth.

I love serving the Lord by serving His kids! Why?

I love the Lord and love kids! It's that simple.

I have had the honor and privilege to serve as the Awana Commander here at Spring Hill Baptist Church for the past 14 years and I believe I am still going strong, in His strength, of course. I have been serving in Christian Children's Ministries for over 20 years and I believe it is one of the most important ministries within the local church. "Kids Matter to God, so they matter to me!" I believe it is so important, especially this day and age, for kids to be taught the Word of God, the Bible, and how "to come to know, love and serve the Lord, Jesus Christ," every day throughout their lives.

I wanted to also let you know that I am a retired Suffolk County, NY Police Detective having served proudly for 23 years. I am now employed at Spring Hill Christian Academy as Security/Teacher Aide, and also at Spring Hill Baptist Church as the Outreach and Ministries Director.

I have been married for 31 years to my wife Dina, have 5 children, Justin, Kaitlyn, Kayla, Kevin, and Theresa, and also 6 Grandchildren - Isabelle, Anthony, Dominic, Elcie, Emma and Huxley (Tink).

I have been so blessed by God my whole life and I want to serve Him, bring Him honor and glory, in all I do. "For to me, to live is Christ..." (Philippians 1:21). I look forward to meeting you and your kids, serving your families and serving God. It is a "win win" - I can't lose. God bless.

In Christ,

Commander Jeb
